Very clean, modern, minimalist hotel rooms across from the Ice Pond. This family hotel got a long-awaited updating and reopened in mid-2021 as SCP Hilo. Very warm staff that make the whole hotel feel inviting. The updates earned them a Real Gem rating. Well-maintained building and grounds with one of the nicer pools in Hilo (and it includes comfy lounge chairs). Rooms facing that pool (interior side of property—#16–29) are preferable since they’re away from the street noise on this busy corner. As a second choice, get a premium room facing the koi pond which also has lanais. Your resort fee covers: bike rentals, paddle boards, coffee and tea in the lobby and WiFi. They added a small workout room with some equipment, yoga mats and free weights. There is a small healthy provisions market on site. No room safes or place to store valuables. They have a category called “Peaceful Rooms” that are designed to create a stress-free sleep environment minimizing exposure to blue light and do not include a TV (so leave your iPad at home). Rooms are around 350 sq. ft.
