Celebrate National Park Week 2025

Today starts the annual celebration known as National Park Week. If you ever needed an excuse to get out and explore America’s backyard, this is a great time to do it.

Death Valley National Park is best explored in the wintertime.

Death Valley National Park is a land of extremes—hot desert and snowy mountains.

The writer and historian Wallace Stegner famously called the national parks “…the best idea we ever had. Absolutely American, absolutely democratic, they reflect us at our best rather than our worst.” We whole heartedly agree with the sentiment. From its beginnings over a hundred years ago with the founding of Yellowstone National Park in 1872, the national park system has been gateway to experiencing the natural world for people all around the world. Today, there are 63 national parks across the United States. Each showcases and represents something utterly unique about the landscape, both natural and cultural. While a handful are iconic and see millions of visitors every year, there are plenty of parks that are often overlooked.

Watching the sun rise at Haleakala National Park is considered a true bucket list experience.

National Park Week runs from April 19th through April 27th in 2025. Each year has a different theme and this year’s is the National Park Playlist. Each day of the week looks to highlight the musical connections that link national parks with what the American Story. This is mainly done through encouraging the public to share memories and experiences they’ve had at national parks through the years. There are a number of great resources to be found on the NPS website that feature examples of music, as well as cool volunteer opportunities.

Great Smoky Mountains National Park has a huge range of sights, even underground.

Our favorite perk of National Park Week is that on this first day, entrance fees are waived. If price was ever something deterring you from checking out the lesser known parks near you, today is a great time to get out and explore your new favorite weekend excursion.
